Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has singled out Kobbie Mainoo, Youri Tielemans and Bruno Fernandes for praise following the Red Devils’ 2-2 Premier League draw against Everton.
United were forced to settle for a point at the weekend despite producing what Rooney described as an improved away performance.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, the former England captain highlighted the influence of United’s midfield trio, saying they provided greater control during the encounter.
“I thought it was a good away performance. There was a lot more control. The midfield three [Mainoo, Tielemans and Fernandes] were really good.”
Rooney believes the three players will be disappointed that their performances did not result in all three points.
“They will be frustrated that they have not won the game, given the performance,” he added.
The draw means Michael Carrick’s side missed an opportunity to claim maximum points, although Rooney’s comments suggest he saw encouraging signs in United’s overall display.
Mainoo, Tielemans and Fernandes will now be expected to build on their performances as United look to turn improved performances into victories in the Premier League.
