Serie A served up three intriguing fixtures on Saturday, with AC Milan producing a dramatic second-half comeback against Lazio, Cagliari claiming a major away victory over Atalanta and Genoa being held by Frosinone.

The biggest game of the day came at the Stadio Olimpico, where Lazio surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Milan. Matteo Cancellieri and Tijjani Noslin put Lazio in control before half-time, but Milan coach Ruben Amorim’s substitutions transformed the match. Diego Moreira struck twice in quick succession after the interval, with Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot providing the assists as the Rossoneri fought back for a point.

The draw left Lazio at the top of the Serie A table with 10 points from four matches, while Milan moved to fifth on eight points.

There was another surprise in Bergamo, where Cagliari defeated Atalanta 2-1 to continue their impressive start to the campaign.

Paul Mendy put Cagliari ahead before Atalanta responded, but Daniel Maldini restored the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot after a handball by Sead Kolasinac.

The victory lifted Cagliari to fourth place with nine points, while Atalanta remained on six points after suffering their second defeat of the campaign.

At the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Genoa and Frosinone played out a 1-1 draw, leaving Genoa still searching for their first victory of the season.

The match also produced a notable VAR moment as Serie A recorded its first penalty of the season. Genoa were awarded a spot-kick after a VAR review, but Lorenzo Colombo sent his effort wide. It was the first penalty awarded in the league’s opening 32 matches.

With the weekend’s remaining fixtures still to come, Lazio’s failure to hold a two-goal advantage means the race at the top remains tightly contested, while Cagliari’s impressive start is beginning to look increasingly difficult to dismiss as a surprise.
