Premier League: Arsenal Stay Perfect as Liverpool, Chelsea Drop Points

Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season on Saturday, while Liverpool and Chelsea were both held to draws in a dramatic round of fixtures.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal produced one of the biggest results of the day, beating Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light to make it four wins from four league matches. Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring with a superb strike before Bukayo Saka converted a late penalty to seal victory. David Raya also played a key role, saving a penalty from Enzo Le Fée.

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by newly promoted Hull City in a major surprise. Hull twice came from behind, with Mohamed Belloumi scoring both of their goals, before João Pedro rescued a point for Xabi Alonso’s side. The result extended Hull’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

Liverpool were unable to find a way through Fulham, with the two teams playing out a goalless draw at Anfield. The result continued a frustrating start for new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, whose side struggled for energy and creativity after their midweek Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid.

There was another surprise at Villa Park, where Nottingham Forest defeated Aston Villa 2-1. The victory was Forest’s first at Villa in 32 years and was secured by a late goal from Igor Jesus.

Ipswich Town produced another major upset by beating Crystal Palace 3-2 away from home. Zian Flemming scored the decisive goal in stoppage time to complete a dramatic victory for the visitors.

Bournemouth and Brentford shared the points after a 2-2 draw, while Tottenham’s scoring problems continued as they were held to 0-0 by Everton. The result means Spurs have now failed to score in their opening four league matches.

With Arsenal now sitting top of the table on 12 points from four games, attention turns to Sunday’s Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City, which could significantly reshape the early title race.
