Real Madrid returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Saturday, while Espanyol and Racing Santander also picked up important victories in the latest round of LaLiga fixtures.

The biggest result came at the Santiago Bernabéu, where Real Madrid defeated Rayo Vallecano 4-1 to move level on 12 points with Barcelona at the top of the table. Kylian Mbappé was the star, scoring twice, while Álvaro Carreras and Jude Bellingham were also on target.

Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Carreras doubled Madrid’s advantage. Bellingham added a third before half-time, although Rayo responded after the break through Sergio Camello. Madrid eventually restored their three-goal cushion when Mbappé completed his brace in the 91st minute.

The victory was particularly important for José Mourinho’s side after their recent domestic setback and keeps them firmly in the early title race. Mbappé’s second goal also took his tally to seven goals in six appearances this season.

Elsewhere, Espanyol defeated Osasuna 2-0, with Roberto Fernández scoring both goals in a strong away performance. The result gave Espanyol another valuable three points as they continue their campaign.

Racing Santander also came from behind to beat Alavés 2-1 in an entertaining contest. Alavés took the lead, but Racing responded with two goals to complete the comeback and claim the points.

At San Mamés, Athletic Club were held to a 1-1 draw by Elche. The result denied Athletic a home victory, with both teams settling for a point after an evenly contested encounter.

With Barcelona still to play against Levante on Sunday, Real Madrid’s victory has increased the pressure at the top of the table. The defending champions can move clear again with a win, while Madrid will be encouraged by another prolific performance from Mbappé.
