Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent move from Chelsea FC to Real Madrid in a deal reported to be worth up to £51.8 million (€60 million), signing a six-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2032.
The 27-year-old Spanish left-back becomes Real Madrid’s first major signing since the return of José Mourinho as head coach. The Spanish giants moved quickly to strengthen their defence following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign in which they failed to win La Liga and exited the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and went on to establish himself as one of the Blues’ most reliable performers. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he helped the club win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup and remained a regular member of the Spanish national team following their UEFA Euro 2024 triumph.
The transfer package is reported to include an initial fee of around €55 million, with a further €5 million in performance-related add-ons.
For Chelsea, the sale represents a significant squad reshuffle following a disappointing domestic campaign that saw them finish outside the European qualification places. For Real Madrid, Mourinho secures an experienced international defender as he begins rebuilding the squad ahead of the new season.
