Paris Saint-Germain suffered a surprise 3-0 defeat to Spanish side Mallorca in a pre-season friendly as the UEFA Champions League holders turned their attention to this weekend’s clash with Manchester United.
Luis Enrique’s side endured a disappointing outing at San Moix, where a much-changed PSG team was comfortably beaten despite including several first-team players.
The French champions were without several key stars, but new signing Illia Zabarnyi and fellow centre-back Lucas Beraldo completed the full 90 minutes as the coaching staff continued to assess the squad ahead of the new season.
Georgia international Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also featured from the start before being substituted around the hour mark, while highly-rated teenager Ibrahim Mbaye was also given valuable minutes.
Despite the defeat, PSG’s focus will now shift to their high-profile pre-season meeting with Manchester United in Gothenburg on Saturday.
The encounter forms part of the club’s Tour 2026 preparations and will provide another important test before the French champions begin their competitive campaign.
Luis Enrique is expected to welcome back several senior players for the showdown against United, significantly strengthening the squad after the absences that affected the Mallorca defeat.
The friendly also serves as PSG’s final major preparation before they face Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, August 12, where they will look to add another trophy to their collection following last season’s Champions League triumph.
Manchester United, meanwhile, will view the match as an opportunity to measure themselves against one of Europe’s strongest teams as both clubs continue fine-tuning their squads ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
