Blackburn Rovers have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Moussa Baradji after activating the purchase option in his loan agreement with Swiss side Yverdon-Sport.
The long-term deal remains subject to international clearance and approval from the relevant football authorities, but it marks a significant piece of business for Rovers ahead of the new Championship campaign.
Baradji initially arrived at Ewood Park on a season-long loan last August and quickly became an important figure in the squad after overcoming an ankle injury that sidelined him until November.
Once fit, the 25-year-old established himself as a regular presence in midfield, featuring in Blackburn’s final 32 Championship matches of the season. His contributions included two goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Charlton Athletic at Ewood Park in January.
The French midfielder’s performances convinced the club to trigger the clause that would make his stay permanent, ensuring he remains part of Blackburn’s plans for the foreseeable future.
Speaking after the announcement, Baradji expressed his delight at securing his future with the club and described the move as a major milestone in his career.
“I’m happy to be staying here and it’s a big step in my career to be here at Blackburn Rovers,” he said.
The midfielder revealed that remaining at Ewood Park had always been his priority, adding that he is already focused on preparing for the demands of another challenging Championship season.
“In my head, it’s always been clear that I want to be here at Rovers. I will work hard in pre-season, which is important for every player, particularly in the Championship, where you have 46 games. It sets you up for the season ahead.”
Baradji also outlined his ambitions for the upcoming campaign, targeting greater influence in the final third as he looks to build on his encouraging first season in English football.
“I want more games, more goals and more assists next season. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
For Blackburn, securing Baradji’s signature represents an important piece of continuity as the club prepares for the new season, with the Frenchman expected to play a key role in the heart of midfield after proving his value during his breakthrough year at Ewood Park.
