Chelsea Close In on Valentin Barco as Strasbourg Exit Signals Stamford Bridge Move

Chelsea appear set to strengthen their squad for the 2026-27 season with the expected arrival of Valentin Barco after the Argentine midfielder announced his departure from RC Strasbourg Alsace.

The 21-year-old’s farewell message to Strasbourg supporters has intensified speculation that a move to Stamford Bridge is imminent, with sources close to the player indicating that Chelsea is his next destination.

Although the Premier League club has yet to officially confirm an agreement, Barco is reportedly expected to sign a six-year contract, becoming the latest player to move within BlueCo’s growing multi-club network.

Barco enjoyed an impressive rise in Ligue 1 following his £7.9 million move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Strasbourg in January 2025. His performances quickly established him as one of the club’s standout players, attracting attention from within the Chelsea hierarchy.

If completed, the transfer would represent the second arrival at Chelsea this summer following the previously agreed move for striker Emanuel Emegha. Both players have been part of the strategic relationship between Strasbourg and Chelsea, clubs owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

The deal would also become the 13th transfer involving the two BlueCo clubs since the start of last season, underlining the increasingly close footballing partnership between the organizations.

Chelsea’s summer recruitment drive is already gathering pace ahead of a new era under incoming manager Xabi Alonso, who is set to officially take charge on July 1.

The club has already secured future deals for Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP in a reported £40 million move, while highly rated Dastan Satpaev is also expected to join from Kairat. Meanwhile, Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders is reportedly being considered for a return to Stamford Bridge after impressing during a loan spell.

In an emotional farewell posted on social media, Barco expressed gratitude to everyone associated with Strasbourg following a memorable spell in France.

“Today I say goodbye to this club. I always gave everything on the pitch in every game for this shirt,” Barco wrote.

The midfielder went on to thank his teammates, coaching staff, club employees and supporters, singling out head coach Liam Rosenior and former coach Gary O’Neil for their role in his development.

“I want to thank my team-mates, who made everything easier for me; Liam Rosenior and his staff for the confidence they showed in me and for helping shape me as a player; Gary O’Neil and his staff for understanding me and helping me improve; everyone at the club who supports us every day; and the fans for the love they always gave me. Thank you, Strasbourg.”

While official confirmation from Chelsea is still pending, Barco’s farewell message has all but signaled the end of his Strasbourg chapter, with Stamford Bridge now appearing to be the next stop in the young Argentine’s rapidly rising career.
