World Cup Heartbreak: Pape Gueye Fumes, Demands Coach Pape Thiaw's Exit

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has sensationally announced that he will no longer represent the national team as long as head coach Pape Thiaw remains in charge.

The 27-year-old made the declaration shortly after Senegal’s dramatic elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a heartbreaking extra-time defeat to Belgium in the Round of 32.

Gueye took to social media to express his frustration in the aftermath of the crushing loss, revealing he intends to step away from international football unless there is a change in the technical staff.

“I’ll be back to give you a few words regarding the elimination… but I announce today that as long as it’s this technical staff, I’ll take a break from the national team,” he wrote.

Senegal appeared destined for the quarter-finals after opening up a 2-0 lead late in normal time against Belgium.

However, the Europeans mounted a stunning comeback, scoring twice in the closing minutes to force extra time before Youri Tielemans converted a controversial late penalty to complete a dramatic 3-2 victory and send the Teranga Lions crashing out.

Gueye’s comments have now plunged Senegalese football into fresh uncertainty, with pressure likely to intensify on Thiaw following both the painful World Cup exit and the midfielder’s public decision to boycott the national team.

The Senegal Football Federation has yet to respond to Gueye’s statement or comment on the future of Thiaw.
