Newcastle United have reportedly moved swiftly to strengthen their squad by agreeing a deal to sign Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure, with Sandro Tonali edging closer to a big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies are understood to have accepted a £100 million offer from Tottenham for Tonali, with personal terms also believed to have been agreed between the Italian midfielder and the North London club. While the transfer has yet to be officially completed, it appears to be approaching the finish line.

With Tonali’s departure looming, Newcastle have accelerated plans to reinforce Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of the new season.

Reports earlier on Wednesday suggested the club were pursuing both Toure and Johan Manzambi, and those efforts have now produced a breakthrough.

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Newcastle have reached an agreement with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for the signing of Toure. The report was later backed by Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who claimed the deal is worth €50 million (£42.8 million), with Hoffenheim also securing a sell-on clause.

Transfer expert David Ornstein has also confirmed that an agreement is in place, adding that the 20-year-old Ivory Coast international has been granted permission to travel to Tyneside for his medical later this week.

Toure is expected to bolster Newcastle’s attacking options and could become a direct replacement should Anthony Gordon leave the club during the transfer window.

Despite the widespread reports, Edwards cautioned that the transfer is not yet complete, although confidence remains high that the deal will be finalised in the coming days.
