Urban Pleased With Poland's Draw Against Nigeria

Jan Urban has expressed satisfaction with Poland’s display after the Red and Whites battled to a 2-2 draw with the Nigeria national football team in an international friendly in Warsaw.

The entertaining contest, played before a packed crowd at the 58,000-capacity Stadion PGE Narodowy on Wednesday night, saw both sides exchange goals in a closely fought encounter.

Poland started brightly and dominated the early stages, but it was Nigeria who struck first when Terem Moffi converted from close range in the 23rd minute. The hosts responded before the break through Kacper Potuski, who restored parity with a well-taken effort.

The Super Eagles regained the advantage in the 76th minute after Paul Onuachu calmly converted from the penalty spot. However, Poland refused to give in and earned a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time when Przemyslaw Wiśniewski unleashed a superb strike to rescue a draw.

Despite his side’s inability to claim victory, Urban praised his players for their overall performance against a strong Nigerian team.

“The scenario from the previous matches repeated itself – we played, the opponent scored,” Urban told laczynaspilka.pl.

“But I wasn’t concerned because we played well. And we played well after the goal. It was a good match against a good team.”

The result extends Nigeria’s encouraging run of performances under coach Éric Chelle, while Poland will take confidence from their resilience and attacking display as preparations continue for future international assignments.
