Liverpool have completed the signing of highly-rated French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais on a long-term contract, with the transfer subject to international clearance.

The Reds agreed a deal for the 20-year-old earlier this year, and the move is expected to be formally ratified in the coming days as Arne Slot continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

Jacquet arrives at Anfield after progressing through Rennes’ renowned academy, where he established himself as one of France’s brightest young defensive prospects. He made 33 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 club, including 21 outings during the 2025-26 campaign before a shoulder injury suffered in February cut his season short.

The France Under-21 international also gained valuable first-team experience during a season-long loan spell at Clermont Foot, making 24 appearances as he continued his development.

Speaking after completing the move, Jacquet expressed his excitement at joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“I feel really good, the first impressions are good, and I am very happy to start here,” he told the club’s official website.

“I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here, and I am very excited to get started.

“For me it’s a big dream, it’s a big club. A club like Liverpool, it’s a big dream for me.”

Jacquet is expected to provide Liverpool with additional depth at centre-back while developing alongside the club’s established defensive options.

His squad number will be confirmed ahead of the new season.
