Doncaster Rovers have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of winger Leon Ayinde from Ipswich Town on a two-year contract.
The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international arrives after gaining valuable experience across England’s lower leagues and is expected to add pace and creativity to Doncaster’s forward line.
Ayinde began his career with Cork City before securing a move to Ipswich Town in January 2023. Although first-team opportunities at Portman Road proved limited, the winger continued his development through loan spells that showcased his attacking potential.
He spent the 2024-25 campaign with Rochdale AFC in the National League before joining Boreham Wood on loan in February 2026. During his time there, he played an important role in the club’s run to the National League play-off final.
Doncaster manager Grant McCann revealed that Ayinde had been on the club’s radar for some time and believes the young winger possesses the qualities needed to excite supporters.
“He’s a really dynamic, exciting wide forward,” McCann said.
“He’s an exciting player, he wants to get at people, run at people.”
The Doncaster boss is expected to utilize Ayinde’s direct style and pace as part of his plans for the upcoming season, with the winger viewed as a player capable of troubling defenders and creating opportunities in the final third.
For Ayinde, the move represents an opportunity to establish himself at senior level and continue the progression that has seen him rise from Irish football to the English professional game.
Doncaster supporters will be hoping the young winger can translate his potential into consistent performances as the club looks to build momentum ahead of the new campaign.
