Aston Villa’s hopes of securing a home victory were dashed as Kristoffer Ajer struck just two minutes after John McGinn’s goal to earn Brentford a dramatic 2-2 Premier League draw at Villa Park on Saturday.
Brentford took the lead in the 10th minute when Yehor Yarmoliuk capitalised on a defensive error to put the visitors ahead. Villa responded quickly, with Nicolas Jackson finding the net in the 12th minute to restore parity.
The match remained evenly balanced after the break, with both sides searching for a decisive goal. Villa eventually moved ahead in the 77th minute when captain John McGinn found the net, raising hopes that the hosts would claim all three points.
However, Brentford responded almost immediately. Ajer scored in the 79th minute to level the contest at 2-2, silencing the home crowd and ensuring the points were shared.
The result extended Brentford’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season and left Villa still searching for their first home win. Despite taking the lead late in the match, Unai Emery’s side could not hold on as the visitors showed determination to fight back.
Both teams created chances in an entertaining encounter, but neither could find a winner in the closing stages.
For Villa, the draw will feel like a missed opportunity after McGinn’s late strike. Brentford, meanwhile, will take confidence from their ability to respond under pressure and leave Villa Park with a valuable point.
