Southampton FC have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz from Bayern Munich on a four-year contract, with the transfer fee reported to be around €7 million (£6.05 million).
The 25-year-old shot-stopper impressed during a loan spell at St Mary’s after arriving in January, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the team. Peretz played every minute of Southampton’s remarkable 21-match unbeaten run towards the end of the campaign, helping the club reach the Championship play-offs before their participation was ultimately ended following the widely discussed “Spygate” controversy.
During his time on the south coast, Peretz registered eight clean sheets and delivered a number of standout performances, including impressive displays against Premier League opposition such as Fulham FC, Arsenal FC and Manchester City FC during Southampton’s run to the FA Cup semi-finals.
Speaking after completing the move, Peretz expressed his delight at returning permanently.
“I’m super excited. For the last few months this was my home, and we had so many good times and also some tense times, but even in the last few weeks with how we stayed together, you could really feel this home environment.”
The Israeli international added that while playing in the Premier League remains a dream, his desire to achieve that goal with Southampton was the decisive factor behind his commitment to the club.
Southampton Group Technical Director Johannes Spors praised the goalkeeper’s impact and professionalism throughout negotiations.
Spors revealed that Peretz remained committed to Southampton despite interest from elsewhere, highlighting the confidence and leadership qualities that have made him such an important figure within the squad.
Peretz began his professional career with Maccabi Tel Aviv, making more than 100 appearances before securing a move to Bayern Munich. While in Germany, he served primarily as understudy to legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, making seven appearances for the Bavarian giants.
Southampton supporters will now hope the permanent capture of Peretz provides another major boost as the club looks to build on last season’s progress and push for a return to the Premier League.
