Florian Wirtz is emerging as one of the most intriguing mid-priced differential options for Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of the new season.

Priced at £7.5 million and owned by around 14 per cent of FPL managers, the Liverpool midfielder offers significant potential for managers looking to gain an advantage over rivals.

While almost half of FPL managers have already backed Dominik Szoboszlai, Wirtz’s relatively low ownership could make him an attractive alternative if he delivers early in the campaign.

Much of the optimism surrounding the Germany international comes from his role under new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.

During pre-season, Wirtz has been deployed as a central No. 10, operating close to striker Alexander Isak rather than being pushed into a wider position.

Iraola has indicated that he wants Wirtz to play centrally behind the striker, a role that could give the midfielder greater involvement in Liverpool’s attacking moves.

His advanced position should allow Wirtz to receive more touches in the final third and increase his opportunities to contribute goals and assists.

The 23-year-old showed flashes of his quality during his first Premier League campaign last season, although his overall attacking numbers did not fully reflect his ability.

A second season in England, coupled with a manager seemingly intent on maximising the partnership between Wirtz and Isak, could provide the platform for a significant improvement.

For FPL managers, the combination of his £7.5m price tag, relatively low ownership and expected role makes Wirtz a particularly interesting differential.

With Liverpool expected to remain among the league’s most potent attacking sides, Wirtz could offer managers a less-popular route into their attack while carrying the potential for substantial rank gains if he starts the season strongly.
