The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has increased pressure on FIFA president Gianni Infantino by demanding answers to 42 questions concerning his leadership and the organisation’s governance.
According to reports, UEFA secretary general Theodore Theodoridis sent a letter to his FIFA counterpart, Mattias Grafström, requesting responses across 12 areas of concern by November 2.
The questions include issues surrounding FIFA’s abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which would have created a company to manage the commercial interests of FIFA competitions and potentially allowed private investors to acquire a minority stake.
UEFA is also seeking clarification on other governance matters, including the FIFA Peace Prize and the handling of decisions that have attracted criticism from European football officials.
The latest development follows a FIFA Council meeting at which Infantino apologised for not consulting the council adequately over the abandoned commercial proposal. He is expected to face re-election in March 2027.
UEFA has argued that its concerns require timely answers and that future governance reforms should not replace scrutiny of previous decisions. FIFA and UEFA had not publicly responded to requests for comment cited in Reuters’ report.
