Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in emphatic fashion after crushing Egypt 6-2 in their final Group C match on Wednesday.

The defending champions produced a dominant attacking display in Rabat to seal qualification for the knockout stage, bouncing back strongly after their shock opening defeat to Malawi.

Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the perfect start, converting from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a handball inside the Egyptian penalty area.

The Super Falcons never looked back as they overwhelmed Egypt with an impressive attacking display, scoring six goals to record one of the tournament’s biggest victories.

The convincing win completed an impressive turnaround for Justin Madugu’s side, who had begun their title defence with a surprise 3-2 loss to tournament debutants Malawi.

Nigeria responded to that setback by edging Zambia 1-0 in their second group match before delivering a commanding display against Egypt to secure their passage to the last eight.

The result underlined the Super Falcons’ status as one of the tournament favourites despite their early stumble, with experienced stars including Oshoala, captain Rasheedat Ajibade and reigning African Goalkeeper of the Year Chiamaka Nnadozie playing key roles in the team’s resurgence.

Having rediscovered their attacking rhythm, Nigeria will now shift their focus to the quarter-finals as they continue their quest for a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

The six-goal demolition of Egypt also serves as a timely warning to the remaining teams in the competition that the Super Falcons remain determined to retain the continental crown they won in Morocco last year.
