Aston Villa are set to lose another key player this summer, with French champions Paris Saint-Germain closing in on the signing of left-back Lucas Digne after already agreeing to let midfielder Youri Tielemans leave.
Villa’s transfer headache intensified after news emerged that Manchester United had triggered the £35 million release clause in Tielemans’ contract, paving the way for the Belgian midfielder’s move to Old Trafford.
Now, reports indicate that PSG are ready to activate Digne’s release clause, understood to be worth less than £10 million, with a verbal agreement already in place between the player and the Ligue 1 giants.
The France international, currently away on World Cup duty, is expected to complete the transfer once the tournament concludes, with PSG planning to formally trigger the clause after Les Bleus’ campaign.
Digne joined Aston Villa from Everton in 2022 and has become a vital figure under manager Unai Emery. The experienced defender has made 182 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands club and played a key role in their impressive 2025/26 campaign.
Last season, the 31-year-old featured in 31 Premier League matches, contributing four assists as Villa secured a top-four finish. He also made 11 appearances during the club’s successful UEFA Europa League campaign, helping Emery’s side lift the trophy.
The left-back has continued to impress on the international stage, making four appearances for France as they remain in contention for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title.
If the deal goes through, Digne would become the second high-profile departure from Villa this summer, dealing another significant blow to Emery’s squad ahead of the new season.
