Nigeria’s Super Falcons face South Africa in a crucial 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off on Thursday night as both African giants fight to keep their hopes of reaching Brazil alive.
The encounter in Casablanca comes just days after both nations suffered disappointing exits from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria, the defending champions and record 10-time WAFCON winners, were knocked out by Cameroon after a 1-0 quarter-final defeat, while South Africa’s title defence ended with a defeat by hosts Morocco.
Now, there is little time for either side to dwell on their WAFCON disappointment.

Nigeria have dominated the continental competition historically, while South Africa are the reigning WAFCON champions from 2022 and have developed into one of the continent’s strongest sides.
