Marcus Rashford Rejects Multiple Transfer Offers as £40m Manchester United Release Clause Expires

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has reportedly turned down several lucrative transfer offers after the £40 million release clause in his contract officially expired, leaving any potential move dependent on direct negotiations with the Premier League club.

According to The Athletic, the clause that allowed clubs to sign the England international for a fixed fee is no longer valid. Any team interested in acquiring Rashford this summer must now negotiate a transfer fee directly with Manchester United.

The release clause had been structured to exclude United’s domestic rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool, preventing either club from activating the provision.

Rashford Rejects Lucrative Overseas Offers

Despite attracting interest from several clubs, Rashford has reportedly rejected multiple transfer proposals, including offers that would have significantly increased his current salary.

The report adds that any future approaches for the 28-year-old will be assessed jointly by the player, his representatives and Manchester United before a decision is made.

Rashford remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, although he has not featured for the club since December 2024, casting uncertainty over his long-term future.

Impressive Barcelona Loan Spell

Last season, Rashford enjoyed a successful loan spell with Barcelona, where he rediscovered his best form.

The England forward scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, becoming an important figure in the Catalan club’s attack.

Barcelona had negotiated an option to make the move permanent for €30 million, but ultimately chose not to activate the clause before the loan agreement expired.

Anthony Gordon Set to Replace Rashford

Barcelona are now expected to replace Rashford with fellow England international Anthony Gordon, who recently completed an €80 million move from Newcastle United.

The arrival of Gordon effectively ends any immediate prospect of Rashford returning to Camp Nou.

Future Still Uncertain

Although Rashford remains a Manchester United player, uncertainty continues to surround his future.

With his release clause no longer active, United now have greater control over any transfer negotiations and are in a stronger position to demand a higher fee should a club formally pursue the academy graduate.

Whether Rashford stays at Old Trafford or seeks a fresh challenge elsewhere remains one of the major storylines of the summer transfer window, with interest from clubs across Europe and beyond expected to continue.
