LeBron James made his preseason debut for the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night, scoring 10 points in an encouraging first appearance despite his team’s 114–108 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets.
The 41-year-old played 18 minutes in the first half, recording five assists, four rebounds and one steal as Philadelphia introduced its new-look starting lineup.
James made his only field-goal attempt and converted all eight of his free throws, helping the 76ers take a narrow 58–56 lead into halftime.
The four-time NBA champion also demonstrated his playmaking ability, creating scoring opportunities for his teammates, including Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown.
Philadelphia struggled after the break, however, as Brooklyn produced a strong third quarter to take control of the contest and secure the preseason victory.
James joined the 76ers in July after spending the previous eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. His arrival adds championship experience and another major offensive presence to a Philadelphia side hoping to compete for the NBA title.
Speaking after the game, James acknowledged that adjusting to a new team would take time but expressed optimism about building chemistry with his teammates.
The 76ers will continue their preseason preparations with two more games against the Boston Celtics before opening their regular-season campaign against the New York Knicks on October 20.
