Manchester United have reportedly suffered a setback in their pursuit of Bologna defender Jhon Lucumí, with Juventus moving closer to securing the Colombia international.

United had been monitoring the 27-year-old as they considered whether to meet Bologna’s asking price, with Juventus also competing for his signature.

However, the latest development suggests the Italian giants have gained a significant advantage in the race.

According to reports from GOAL, Lucumí has reached an agreement in principle with Juventus on a five-year contract worth around €2.5 million per season.

The proposed agreement means Juventus are now in a strong position to complete the signing, although a deal with Bologna still needs to be finalised.

Lucumí has established himself as an important figure at Bologna since joining the club, and his performances have attracted interest from several European sides.

For Manchester United, the development could force the club to reassess its defensive plans if Lucumí ultimately completes his move to Turin.
