Jannik Sinner Ends 2026 Season as Knee Injury Forces Long Break

Jannik Sinner has officially called time on his 2026 season after deciding to undergo further treatment for his ongoing knee injury.

The world No. 1 has not played since defeating Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final on July 12.

Sinner had already missed the US Open and several tournaments during the Asian swing because of the problem with his right knee. He has now confirmed that he will not return to competitive action for the rest of 2026.

“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said in a video message.

His team said the treatment is aimed at dealing with inflammation in his knee, with the decision taken to give him enough time to recover before beginning preparations for the 2027 season.

Sinner Choosing Long-Term Health

Rather than rushing back for the final tournaments of the year, Sinner has chosen to focus on getting fully fit.

The decision means he will miss the Shanghai Masters, Paris Masters and ATP Finals, as well as Italy’s Davis Cup campaign.

Sinner enjoyed an incredible 2026 before the injury interrupted his season. He won six titles, including five Masters 1000 tournaments and his second consecutive Wimbledon crown. He finished the year with a 44-3 record.

Now the big question is: when will we see Sinner again?

His team has not announced a specific comeback date, but the treatment is being planned with the 2027 season in mind.

For now, Sinner is putting tennis aside and focusing on getting his knee right  because coming back at 100% is more important than rushing back at 50%.
