Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has set a new scoring record in Turkish professional football after finding the net in 11 consecutive league matches for Bursaspor.
The Nigerian forward extended his remarkable run during Bursaspor’s clash against Pendikspor on Monday, scoring in the 62nd minute to double his team’s lead after Halil Akbunar had opened the scoring.
The latest goal came just four days after Iheanacho scored twice and provided an assist in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Muğlaspor.
His achievement surpassed the previous record of nine consecutive scoring appearances, associated with Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay during the 1962/63 season and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı during the 1995/96 campaign.
The 30-year-old has emerged as a key attacking figure for Bursaspor following his move to the Turkish side after leaving Celtic.
His consistency in front of goal has strengthened his reputation as one of the most prolific forwards in the competition, while his latest milestone is another talking point for Nigerian football fans.
Iheanacho will now look to maintain his scoring form and help Bursaspor sustain their push for success this season.
