Chesterfield have strengthened their defensive options with the signing of former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Alfie Pond on a two-year contract.
The 22-year-old arrives after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he made five senior appearances following his move from Exeter City in September 2022.
Although first-team opportunities at Wolves were limited, Pond continued his development with the club’s Under-21 side, featuring regularly in both the EFL Trophy and the National League Cup.
The centre-back also enjoyed a productive loan spell with Crewe Alexandra during the second half of last season. He made 19 League Two appearances and contributed two goals, impressing with his composure, aerial ability and defensive consistency.
Chesterfield will be hoping Pond’s Football League experience and potential can bolster their back line as they prepare for the challenges of the new campaign. At just 22, the defender is expected to play an important role in the club’s long-term plans while continuing his development with regular first-team football.
