Tottenham’s £75 million signing Savio made an immediate impression on his debut, scoring from the bench as Spurs cruised to a 5-0 victory over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

The Brazil international, who joined Tottenham from Manchester City this summer, was introduced in the 71st minute with Spurs already three goals ahead. He received a standing ovation from the home supporters before making his mark just 11 minutes later.

Savio picked up the ball on the edge of the box, showed impressive footwork to dance past two defenders and fired into the net to score his first goal for the club. He celebrated by lifting the corner flag as Tottenham supporters celebrated their expensive new signing.

The winger was also involved in Tottenham’s fifth goal, with Ben Davies completing the scoring in the 85th minute as Roberto De Zerbi’s side bounced back strongly from their disappointing Premier League defeat by Brentford at the weekend.

Tottenham had initially struggled to break down a much-changed Charlton side, but Mikey Moore finally opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a powerful effort into the top corner.

Dominic Solanke doubled the advantage just four minutes later, finishing calmly after turning inside the penalty area.

The result provided a much-needed confidence boost for Spurs, who have spent more than £300 million during a busy summer transfer window.

For Savio, however, the biggest takeaway was his explosive introduction. His goal, creativity and willingness to take on defenders offered an early glimpse of why Tottenham were prepared to make such a significant investment.
