MK Dons Land Experienced Defender Charlie Goode on Free Transfer

Milton Keynes Dons FC have completed the signing of central defender Charlie Goode on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Stevenage FC.

The 30-year-old becomes MK Dons’ first signing of the summer as the newly promoted side prepares for life in League One after securing promotion in April.

Goode leaves Stevenage after two seasons with the club, having made 45 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign. His contributions helped The Boro reach the League One play-offs before deciding to seek a new challenge at the end of his contract.

The experienced centre-back brings a wealth of Football League and top-flight experience to Stadium MK. Throughout his career, he has represented clubs including Scunthorpe United FC, Northampton Town FC and Brentford FC.

Goode was part of the Brentford side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and went on to make six top-flight appearances during the club’s first season back among English football’s elite. He also gained valuable experience during loan spells with Sheffield United FC, Blackpool FC and Wigan Athletic FC.

Speaking after completing the move, Goode highlighted the club’s ambition as a key factor in his decision.

“There’s lots of quality here at this club, which also has huge ambition, and that’s something I really wanted to be a part of,” he told the club’s official website.

MK Dons head coach Paul Warne expressed his delight at securing the defender’s signature, revealing that he had admired Goode for several years.

“This marks our first signing of the summer, a first of many, and it’s great news to be welcoming Charlie to the club,” Warne said.

“I tried to sign him a few seasons ago; in the end it didn’t happen, but I’ve spoken to him on many occasions including after good results and congratulating him on the odd goal or performance so it wasn’t a difficult decision for me when I knew he was out of contract.”

Goode’s arrival signals MK Dons’ intent as they begin strengthening their squad for the challenges of League One football next season.
