Bologna FC have been dealt a major setback after first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski was ruled out with injury ahead of their crucial Europa League encounter.
The Polish international picked up a moderate-to-severe left hamstring injury during Bologna’s away victory over US Sassuolo, forcing him off and casting immediate doubt over his availability.
Medical assessments have now confirmed that Skorupski will be sidelined for an extended period, meaning he will miss the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 against his former club, AS Roma.
The absence of their number one goalkeeper is a significant blow for Bologna as they prepare for a decisive European tie, with Skorupski having been a key figure between the posts this season.
In his absence, backup goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia is expected to step in and take responsibility for one of the club’s most important matches of the campaign.
Bologna will now hope Ravaglia can rise to the occasion as they look to navigate a challenging test against Roma without their first-choice shot-stopper.
