FIFA has approved the appointment of a Normalisation Committee to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) pending fresh elections into the federation’s Executive Committee.
The development was announced by the NFF in a statement, which cited a letter signed by FIFA Secretary-General Mattias Grafström and addressed to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme.
According to the letter, the committee will comprise a suitable number of members to be jointly appointed by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as soon as possible.
The Normalisation Committee is expected to manage the federation’s affairs during the transition period until a new NFF Executive Committee is elected.
The appointment places FIFA and CAF at the centre of the process of establishing the committee’s membership and overseeing the transition to a new elected leadership.
Further details regarding the identities of the committee members, the timeline for their appointment and the schedule for fresh elections were not provided in the announcement.
The development marks a significant administrative step for Nigerian football, with attention now turning to the committee’s composition, mandate and plans for the federation’s next electoral process.
