South Korea captain Son Heung-min will start against Uruguay on Monday as he looks to move level with Cha Bum-kun on the country’s all-time men’s international goalscoring list.

Interim head coach Robert Moreno has named Son in a two-man attack alongside Besiktas forward Oh Hyun-gyu for the international friendly at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Son currently has 57 goals in 148 appearances for South Korea and needs just one more goal to equal former national team coach Cha Bum-kun’s record of 58.

The LAFC forward scored in South Korea’s previous friendly against Ecuador, converting a free-kick in the second half as Moreno began his tenure with a 3-0 victory.

Lee Kang-in also returns to the starting XI after being rested for the Ecuador match. The Atlético Madrid midfielder will operate on the right side of Moreno’s 4-4-2 formation, with Hwang Hee-chan on the opposite flank.

Lee Jae-sung and Kim Bong-soo complete the midfield, while Kim Min-jae, Lee Han-beom, Lee Tae-seok and Seol Young-woo form the back four.

The match represents Moreno’s second game in charge after his side defeated Ecuador 3-0 in his first match as interim coach.

Uruguay, meanwhile, will be led by former striker Diego Forlán on an interim basis. The South Americans are looking to respond after losing 3-1 to Japan in their previous friendly.

Darwin Núñez leads Uruguay’s attack, with Maximiliano Araújo, Brian Rodríguez, Lucas Torreira, Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Rodrigo Bentancur also named in the starting lineup.

For Son, the spotlight will be firmly on the record. One goal against Uruguay would take him to 58 international goals and level him with one of the most celebrated goalscorers in South Korean football history.
