South Korea were held to a 0-0 draw by Ecuador in an international friendly at the Suwon World Cup Stadium on Thursday.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock as both teams began preparations for their next international assignments following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The meeting was South Korea’s first of four scheduled friendlies during the September and October international windows, with Uruguay, Venezuela and Uzbekistan also on their programme.

South Korea entered the game after a disappointing World Cup campaign, having suffered consecutive 1-0 defeats to Mexico and South Africa after opening the tournament with a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

Ecuador, meanwhile, reached the World Cup round of 32 before losing 2-0 to Mexico. They had also defeated Germany 2-1 in the group stage and drawn 0-0 with Curaçao.

The result leaves the two nations still searching for a victory in their latest meeting. Their previous encounter came in May 2010, when South Korea recorded a 2-0 victory in Seoul.

South Korea will next face Uruguay on September 28, while Ecuador continues their international programme with further fixtures during the current window.
