Carabao Cup: Fleetwood Town Handed Dream Arsenal Tie As Chelsea Face Liverpool

League Two side Fleetwood Town have been handed a dream home tie against Premier League champions Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Fleetwood secured their place in the last 16 for the first time in the club’s history after edging Sheffield United 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Their reward is a meeting with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who booked their place in the fourth round with a 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Tuesday.

The Lancashire club will now welcome the Premier League champions with the opportunity to cause one of the biggest upsets of the competition.

Elsewhere, holders Manchester City could face Brighton at the Etihad Stadium if Pep Guardiola’s side overcome Norwich City in Thursday’s remaining third-round fixture.

There will also be a heavyweight Premier League clash as Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso returns to his former club Liverpool.

The draw has also produced an all-League One tie, with Bradford City set to face Peterborough United for a place in the quarter-finals after both clubs secured third-round victories over Leyton Orient and Barnsley respectively.

The remaining ties are all Premier League affairs.

Fulham will host Crystal Palace, while Bournemouth have been drawn at home against Aston Villa.

Brentford will travel to face Sunderland, with Everton welcoming Newcastle United.

The fourth-round matches are scheduled to take place during the week commencing October 26.

With Fleetwood facing the reigning Premier League champions at home and Liverpool and Chelsea meeting in another high-profile encounter, the fourth round promises several intriguing ties as clubs battle for a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
