Nigerian winger Christian Nwachukwu has completed a permanent move from Sheffield United to Azerbaijan Premier League champions Sabah FC for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to his brief spell with the English club.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at Sabah until the summer of 2029, with the transfer still subject to international clearance.

Nwachukwu joined Sheffield United from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv in February 2025 after impressing with his performances in the Bulgarian top flight and European competitions. However, he was unable to make a senior appearance for the Blades during his time at Bramall Lane.

His opportunities in England were limited, and he spent part of last season on loan at Turkish club Serikspor, where he continued his development with regular first-team football. During his spell in Turkey, the Nigerian contributed one goal and two assists in 11 appearances, demonstrating the pace and attacking qualities that first attracted Sheffield United.

Before moving to England, Nwachukwu enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Botev Plovdiv, registering five goals and three assists in 33 matches across all competitions. His performances earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s promising young wingers and convinced Sheffield United to secure his signature.

Confirming the transfer, Sheffield United announced that the winger had been sold to Sabah FC for an undisclosed fee, ending his association with the Championship club without making a competitive first-team appearance.

For Sabah FC, the signing represents another investment in young talent as the Azerbaijani champions strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. Nwachukwu will be hoping regular playing time helps him continue his development and revive his ambitions of returning to one of Europe’s top leagues in the future.
