Chelsea’s newest signing Geovany Quenda has revealed his ambition to emulate Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo by making the successful transition from Sporting CP’s academy to the Premier League.
The highly-rated winger arrives at Stamford Bridge with growing expectations after completing a move that had reportedly been agreed as far back as March 2025 before being officially unveiled this summer on a contract running until 2034.
Frequently compared to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka because of his direct style, pace and attacking versatility, Quenda’s football journey has been anything but ordinary.
One of the defining moments of his early career has become part of his personal folklore. As a youngster at grassroots club Damaiense, Quenda arrived for training wearing jeans and ordinary shoes and was initially told he could not participate.
However, after effortlessly controlling a loose ball and dribbling past opponents, coach Ana Correia was so impressed that she convinced club officials to allow him to train despite the unusual circumstances.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, Quenda moved to Portugal at the age of seven, where he quickly adapted to a new country and culture while pursuing his football dream.
His development took him through the youth ranks at Damaiense before spells at Benfica’s academy and eventually Sporting CP, where he emerged as one of Portugal’s brightest young talents.
His rapid rise also earned him international recognition with Portugal’s Under-21 side, further strengthening his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.
Now, Quenda hopes Chelsea will provide the platform to fulfil his enormous potential, just as Sporting once did for Ronaldo before the five-time Ballon d’Or winner launched his legendary career in England.
With Chelsea investing in another long-term talent, supporters will be eager to see whether Quenda can make a similar impact in the Premier League and establish himself among Europe’s elite in the years ahead.
