Novak Djokovic five hours and 15 minutes under the Centre Court lights before overcoming Félix Auger-Aliassime tennis history.
Britain’s Davis Cup captain, Leon Smith, was among those left in awe of Djokovic’s latest masterclass.
“To be able to come out and play this level of tennis at that age… it’s not normal. It’s really not normal,” Smith told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I know he spent a lifetime on his body, but to do this, the amount of work that we don’t see must be astonishing.
“It is amazing. He deserves all the respect that he gets.”
With another gruelling victory behind him, Djokovic’s pursuit of history remains alive, while his latest performance served as further evidence that age remains little more than a number for one of tennis’ all-time greats.
