Iran Leave Powerful Message of Peace After World Cup Draw with Belgium

Iran’s national team delivered a touching message of peace and unity after their World Cup clash against Belgium, leaving a handwritten note in their dressing room following Sunday’s goalless draw at Los Angeles Stadium.

The message, later released by the Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI), came as the country continues to navigate a difficult period amid ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the conflict involving Iran and the United States, one of the co-hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After securing a valuable point against Belgium in their second Group G fixture, the Iranian players departed the stadium having made a statement that extended beyond football.

“From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilised Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast,” the note read.

“We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honour, and leave with dignity.”

The message also expressed gratitude to the city of Los Angeles and the Iranian supporters who have stood behind the national team throughout the tournament.

“Thank you Los Angeles for your hospitality.

“And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes.”

The note concluded with a powerful appeal for unity and understanding.

“May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations.”

Iran’s World Cup campaign has unfolded under extraordinary circumstances. The team entered the tournament amid political tensions and logistical challenges, including travel restrictions and disruptions to their preparations.

Despite those difficulties, Amir Ghalenoei’s side remain unbeaten after draws against New Zealand and Belgium, leaving them with a realistic chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

The message also referenced the attack on a girls’ school in Minab, where at least 168 people reportedly lost their lives on the opening day of the conflict, adding further emotional significance to the gesture.

The Iranian players have repeatedly emphasized their desire to represent their people with dignity throughout the tournament, and their latest act has attracted attention far beyond the football pitch.

As Iran prepare for their decisive final Group G encounter against Egypt, their performances and actions at the World Cup continue to resonate both on and off the field.
