Outgoing Liverpool manager Arne Slot has penned an emotional open letter to supporters, reflecting on his time at Anfield, the club’s Premier League title triumph and the devastating loss of forward Diogo Jota.
The letter, published by the Liverpool Echo, saw Slot express his gratitude to the Liverpool faithful while acknowledging one of the most painful moments the club has endured in recent years.
Referencing Jota’s passing, Slot admitted the tragedy remains difficult to comprehend.
“That only weeks after celebrating together we would lose Diogo is indescribable,” Slot wrote.
“More than anything, I want to remember a team-mate, a friend and an incredible human being who touched the lives of thousands of you every time he wore this club’s famous crest.”
The Dutchman also praised the response of Liverpool supporters during a period of profound grief, describing the unity shown across the club as unforgettable.
“In one of the most difficult moments this club has faced, the love, compassion and support shown by the Liverpool family was extraordinary,” he said.
“As I leave this club, it would be remiss of me not to say that the way you honoured Diogo and stood together in his memory will stay with me forever.”
Slot’s departure comes after a memorable campaign that saw Liverpool secure a historic 20th English league title, adding another chapter to the club’s illustrious history.
Reflecting on the achievement, the manager emphasized that the success belonged to everyone connected with the club.
“Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. For that we should all be proud,” he wrote.
While acknowledging Liverpool’s relentless pursuit of major honours, Slot highlighted the importance of securing Champions League football and maintaining the club’s position among Europe’s elite.
“This club will always judge itself by the biggest honours. That is how it should be,” he said.
“But I also leave knowing the club is exactly where it belongs: amongst Europe’s elite. Securing Champions League football was an important responsibility and one that ensures Liverpool can continue competing at the highest level next season and beyond.”
Slot concluded his farewell message with a vote of confidence in Liverpool’s future, expressing his belief that the foundations are firmly in place for continued success.
“I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead.”
His farewell marks the end of a significant chapter at Anfield, with supporters likely to remember both the silverware achieved under his leadership and the dignity shown during one of the club’s most challenging periods.
