Oldham Athletic have confirmed the signing of experienced striker Elliott Nevitt on a two-year contract following the expiration of his deal with Gillingham on 1 July.
The 29-year-old forward arrives at Boundary Park after spending the second half of last season on loan at Cambridge United, where he played a key role in helping the club secure promotion from League Two.
Nevitt’s move also marks a reunion with Oldham manager Micky Mellon, who previously worked with the striker during their time together at Tranmere Rovers.
Speaking after completing the move, Nevitt expressed his delight at joining the Latics and working once again under the manager who helped launch his professional career.
“I’m really happy. When I spoke to Micky earlier on, he told me how much he wanted me and that meant a lot,” Nevitt said.
“I loved working with him and I wanted to work with him again. Micky was the first person to believe in me. He took a chance in signing me, so I owe him a lot. He gave me the chance to be a professional and made me the man I am today.”
Nevitt brings valuable experience and proven attacking qualities to Oldham as the club continues its preparations for the new campaign. His arrival is expected to strengthen Mellon’s forward options as the Latics look to build on their recent progress and push for further success.
Having demonstrated his ability to contribute at crucial moments throughout his career, Nevitt will now be aiming to make an immediate impact in Oldham colours when he officially joins the club this summer.
